Romania’s Suspended Interior Min Says Ministry Will Do Its Job Despite Pressures

Romania’s Democratic Liberal Party secretary general Vasile Blaga said Sunday after casting his ballot that the Interior Ministry will do its job regardless of pressures coming from politicians or NGOs that are more or less interested in the outcome of the election.

„Elections are well organized and I believe the Interior Ministry will do its job regardless of pressures from politicians or NGOs,” said Blaga, who delegated his attributions as interim interior minister to state secretaries last week, after a court suspended the presidential decree appointing him in the position.

Blaga said he believes Romanians voting Sunday will make informed decisions although „they didn’t have enough time and more debates should have been organized”.

Blaga also said he hopes voter turnout will be higher than in the fist round of elections two weeks ago.

„I voted for Romania’s modernization,” Blaga added.

The Interior Ministry said in a news release it deployed more security forces to oversee the runoff than two weeks ago.
