„Household consumers will pay an additional 1.8 lei (EUR1=RON4.0984) per 100 kWh monthly. (…) This is not an increase in the price of energy, it is an additional cost,” people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

The price for 100 kWh, the average monthly consumption per household in Romania, is RON40 right now. As such, the bill will grow by 4.5%.

The money collected will be used for investment in high-efficiency cogeneration plants.

The contribution level is decided by energy regulator ANRE and it will be included in the electricity bill.

The support scheme, though which authorities plan to earmark RON17.2 billion in 2011-2023, was authorized by the European Commission in 2009, and it will be managed by national power grid operator Transelectrica (TEL.RO).
