Blast At Bucharest’s „Lia Manoliu” Sports Complex, No Casualties

Firefighters said the malfunction was probably caused by a crack in a gas pipe.

Police officers, alongside firefighters and experts from gas distribution company Distrigaz Sud started an investigation to settle the causes of the blast.

"Lia Manoliu" manager, Emil Cismas, said a Distrigaz team was notified early this week on certain malfunctions at the gas system. Following the notification, the Distrigaz experts came Friday to the sports complex to run some checkups, but failed to solve the problem.

The “Distrigaz Sud Grand Prix" junior athletics competition organized Saturday in the athletics gym within the sports complex was sponsored even by Distrigaz. However, the blast prevented the training session scheduled on Sunday, 8:00 local time, from taking place.
