A man in central Romania mountain resort Sinaia remained stranded in his home when a tree uprooted by the strong winds blocked the entrance and tore the phone lines.
According to Claudiu Vasilescu, member of the Busteni mountain rescue team, two houses in the Furnica neighborhood in Sinaia were damaged when the strong wind uprooted two trees.
Saturday evening, on Calea Codrului street, a some 30 meter tall tree, with a one meter wide trunk was uprooted by the blizzard, falling over a house and blocking the entrance in the building.
The owner, a 60 year old man, who was at home when the tree fell, remained stuck in the house and he could not call for help because the fallen tree tore the phone lines, leaving the man without the possibility to contact the outside. His wife came home Sunday morning and alerted authorities.
After an intervention that lasted almost two hours, mountain rescuers and the representatives of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations managed to cut the tree, allowing entry in the building. The owner of the house was not injured, but part of the building roof was damaged.
The quoted source mentioned that the blizzard uprooted another tree, which fell over a home. During the fall, one of the tree branches broke a window and damaged the heating device in the building. Nobody was injured in the accident, since when the tree fell, all members of the family were at a wedding.
