In March 2008, the Parliament passed a law amending the Labor Code and included the Pentecost among legal holidays.

Basescu did not approve the law and sent it back, requesting that the Parliament introduce August 15 among holidays as well.

In his request, Basescu said Romania is among the countries with the least religious holidays, as the Labor Code included only Christmas and Easter. The request was previously rejected by the Senate, but the Chamber of Deputies has the final say.
