„The ministry decided that the initial value of a contract cannot be increased by more than 10% and extra funds must be approved by the ministry’s technical and economic council,” Udrea said at the Mediafax Talks about Construction conference.

The minister said it sometimes happens that certain public work auctions that start from 10 million lei (EUR1=RON4.1049) are won for RON4 million and reach RON12 million after the winning firm submits additional acts to increase the value of the contract.

Udrea also said the Tourism and Regional Development Ministry should decide what projects will be financed, and not the local authorities that „see their own interest or the interest of the parties they represent,” adding any investment should bring money back to the budget.

Udrea said the ministry will enforce a strategy to favor investments that are considered capable to bring more money to the budget.
