According to Muntean, by implementing the system, Romania will have access to data regarding visa applications and will be able to offer such information to other EU member states, with the view to preventing possible security threats.

The implementation of the system is a step Romania must take as it aims to join the Schengen area.

The Romanian public authorities tasked with administering the database are the Foreign Affairs and the Interior ministries, through the Romanian Immigration Department and the Border Police.

The funds needed to establish the system are ensured by the EU, as well as by Romania’s state budget.
