Street demonstrations are set to start at 11 a.m. and will last at least two hours.
Cartel Alfa unionists will continue protests on Friday, when police and penitentiary unionists, as well as unionists in the economic sector, will take to the streets. Administration unionists will join demonstrations on Monday.
Cartel Alfa leader Bogdan Hossu said 26,000 people will stage protests and called on people to take a stand against the Government’s measures.
Unionists affiliated with the CNSRL Fratia federation protested Wednesday in central Bucharest over wage cuts and public sector layoffs. Demonstrators clashed with security forces in their attempt to break through security lines toward the government building, prompting security to use tear gas.
Security forces spokesman Marius Militaru said protesters tried to break outside from the enclosed space containing their demonstration, but their efforts were stifled. He said no one was injured during the incident.
