Romanian President Traian Basescu presented Tuesday evening, at the end of his speech in Parliament, a list of 23 medium-term priorities he will uphold, such as constitutional reform and the fiscal responsibility law.

Constitutional reform, he said, is needed to make a single-chamber Parliament, to clear the relation between state powers and the head of state, as well as that between state powers and society.

Other medium-term priorities presented by Basescu include reform of the pension system, decentralization of public adminsitration and increased local autonomy, adopting a fiscal responsibility law and switching to the euro in 2014.

Basescu said Romania should reduce the number of laws in all sectors, including the fiscal one, and added the funds granted by the European Union should be effectively used.
