Bogdan Aurescu: We need to start talks with the UK for a future of cohesive relations

Foreign minister Bogdan Aurescu has said, on Wednesday, that the EU should hold talks with the United Kingdom on the future of cohesion relations, covering areas such as security, education and mobility. He stressed the need to respect the principle of full reciprocity and non-discrimination.

"We will soon have to start intense discussions with the UK to have a future of cohesive and continuous relations, relations that have been built and consolidated for several years and which we believe should continue and should cover an extended series of areas: education, security, research, mobility and during these negotiations we will insist for respecting the principles of full reciprocity and non-discrimination, while ensuring equal treatment for all 28 member states, including Romanian citizens", said the foreign minister Bogdan Aurescu at the launch of Croatia's presidency at the Council of the European Union.

The EU Parliament members are expected to give the green light to Britain's exit from the European Union tonight, by voting on the Withdrawal Agreement, scheduled at 7pm, Romania time.

During the plenary session in Brussels, Parliament will vote on the Agreement on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community.
