Romanian Democrat Liberals, New Generation Party To Form Majority In Bucharest General Council

Romanian democrat liberal vice president Adriean Videanu and New Generation Party leader, football mogul Gigi Becali, met Monday evening and decided the two parties would form a majority in the general council of capital city Bucharest, Videanu told MEDIAFAX.

Videanu added the Democratic Liberal Party is not open for negotiations with any other political parties. The two parties will have together 28 seats of the general council’s 55. Democrat liberals gained 24 seats, social democrats – 16, liberals – eight, the New Generation Party – four, and the far-right Greater Romania Party gained three seats.

The democrat liberal candidate for general mayor in Bucharest lost the race to independent Sorin Oprescu, a former social democrat.
