Romanian Deputy Proposes Excises On Soft Drinks

According to Calian, the measure will ensure EUR1.5 billion to the state budget annually.

Calian told a news conference Sunday the proposition has already been discussed with Finance Minister Gheorghe Ialomitianu.

The deputy said such a measure entails amending the Tax Code. He stressed that, if Government does not amend the code in this respect, he will put forward a draft law on the matter.

Calian said revenues obtained after implementing the measure could be directed to the healthcare sector, to the agriculture sector or to support small companies.
