Greek Flights To Romania Cancelled Over Strike By Greek Air Traffic Controllers
Chiril said four flights operated by Greek airliner Olympic Airlines on the route Athens – Otopeni, other two flights from Athens, operated by Greek airliner Aegean, and one flight due for Thessaloniki, operated by Romanian airliner Tarom, were all cancelled Wednesday.
Chiril also said Otopeni officials were informed Tuesday on the measure to suspend all flights to and from Greece.
Thousands of Greek civil servants went on strike Wednesday against wage cuts, paralyzing flights and disrupting rail traffic.
Flights across Greece were suspended Wednesday as air traffic controllers joined protests.
The 24-hour nationwide strike by civil servants will also affect state hospitals and schools, tax offices and local government offices.
Greece has come under intense pressure from its European Union partners to slash spending after it revealed a massive and previously undeclared budget shortfall last year that continues to rattle financial markets and the euro.
