British Auto Dealers Unaware Of Dacia’s UK Mkt Penetration Plans

The head of the SMMT's press office, Jonathan Visscher, told MEDIAFAX he has checked with allr evelnat departments within the SMMT and none of the members is, at the moment, interested in developing a Dacia dealership on the UK market.

Even if there are no partners interested in a dealership with the Romanian brand, Dacia could enter the British market through the Renault network. According to Dacia's press office, the ways of entering the British market will be decided by the Renault group and announced at the right time.

Renault Chief Operating Officer Patrick Pelata said early March that the Dacia Duster model would enter the British market late 2012, and the cars for this country will have the steering wheel on the right side of the car.

The SMMT was founded in 1902 and represents over 500 companies in the British auto industry, with a total turnover worth more than GBP50 billion.

Last year, over 85% of the Automobile Dacia output was exported, namely 269,420 units, while in the first month of this year there were 25,118 units exported, which is almost triple the level seen in January 2008.

Germania is the top receiver of Dacia cars, with 84,937 units sold in 2009, followed by France, with 65,956 vehicles sold.
