Romanian Social Democrat Head Says Senator’s Resignation Leaves Deep Marks

Asked whether Oprescu could rejoin the party, after quitting it to run independently for the general mayor seat in Bucharest, Geoana said: "Life is long. Never say never, but it is clear that such a decision leaves deep marks in his relationship with the party that raised him, encouraged him and backed him twice for the general mayor seat in Bucharest, without success unfortunately."

 

The party leader added all the party’s energy and “heavy artillery” will be used to back its candidate Cristian Diaconescu.

 

Oprescu submitted his resignation from the Social Democratic Party Monday morning.
