Fraud Attempts In EP Elections, 35 Criminal Records Opened – Romanian Interior Min
The minister warned that harsh measures will be taken against anyone attempting to defraud the elections. He also said that 400 checkpoints have been set up by the Interior Ministry all over the country, to check vehicles which may carry people who vote more than once.
Dozens of notices on such crimes have come from Bucharest and surrounding areas. Observers in voting stations said their main suspects are people who come to vote in large numbers by bus or minibus.
The Interior Ministry said on June 5 that over 300 checkpoints would be set up, in addition to mobile patrol teams, in an effort to monitor vehicles carrying people to voting stations. The ministry also said that voting station security staff has been trained to notify the authorities and respond to incidents which could affect the voting process.
