Ramba explained that City Hall and the Government are currently making efforts to solve the debt problem, so that Bucharest citizens will not be left without heat over the winter.
He added that, throughout 2008, RON581 million (EUR1 = RON3.6596) were paid to ELCEN and another RON119 million in penalties for the thermal energy supplied, even though the debt was only RON523 million.
At the same time, Ramba said RADET currently owes RON693 million plus penalties worth RON258 million, and another unbilled penalties.
In its turn, RADET received some RON175 million from the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform, as heating subsidy.
The company ELCEN announced Tuesday that the Bucharest and Constanta branches of RADET have unpaid debts of some EUR450 million to the thermal energy producer Electrocentrale Bucharest, which might be forced to cease supplying the two major cities with thermal energy and hot water for household use.
