Bucharest Court of Appeal Rejects Internal Challenge against USR Chairman
The Bucharest Court of Appeal rejected on Wednesday a challenge made by 11 members of opposition party USR who opposed the election of Dan Barna as party chairman and ruled that the latter should appear as the party’s leader in the Political Party’s Registry, according to USR MP Claudiu Nasui.

The group challenged the USR congress where Barna was elected was being illegal.
Before the decision, former USR chairman Nicusor Dan – who resigned the party in 2017 – was registered as the party’s chairman, prompting the Central Electoral Bureau to reject the registration request of an alliance between USR and the Liberty, Unity and Solidarity Party (PLUS).
However, the two parties contested the bureau’s decision at the Supreme Court, who overturned the ruling and permitted the alliance to be registered for the upcoming European Parliament elections.
