In 2008, Romania’s new car sales stood at 22,651 units and sales reached 42,351 units in January and February 2008.
The car segment saw an increase of 27.7% in February this year compared to January, to 9,082 cars from 7,110 in January.
The local auto market, which includes cars, commercial vehicles and buses, saw a decline of 62.2% on the year in February, to 10,514 vehicles from 27,817 vehicle sin February last year.
Total sales in January and February amounted to 18,702 vehicles, down 63.5% on the year from 51,186 vehicles.
On the other hand, sales on the overall market increased 28.4% on the month in February, to 10,514 vehicles from 8,187 vehicles in January.
Sales of commercial vehicles, the second largest segment of the auto market by volume, decreased nearly 71% on the year both in February and in the first two months of the year, to 1,368 units and 2,388 units, respectively.
Bus sales decreased in February to 64 units from 463 in February last year, while this market segment decreased 81.7% on the year in the first two months, to 124 units from 679 units in January and February 2008.
