According to the draft decision, the Local Councils of districts 1 and 2 have been authorized to form a partnership for the project “Capitalizing on the natural potential of the environment, for tourism, recreation and transport of the series of lakes on Colentina river: cable car and outfitting of the lakes on Colentina river.”

According to the decision’s reasoning note, the car’s route will stretch from Free Press Square, in District 1, over the lakes and to Pantelimon Road.

Bucharest Mayor general Sorin Oprescu said he does not oppose the project, but that, since the land is not under the management of the City, it cannot be transferred to the management of the District Councils.

District 2 Mayor Neculai Ontanu said in early February that financing for the cable car project has already been secured. Ontanu said the project will solve the problem of congested traffic and attract tourists.

The cable car as a means of public transportation is mainly destined for the series of lakes on Colentina river – Pantelimon, Plumbuita, Dobroiesti, Fundeni, Tei and Floreasca.
