The passage was built by Portuguese company Lena Engenharia e Construcoes and cost EUR13.11 million.
The passage was inaugurated by Prime Minister Emil Boc and Transport Minister Radu Berceanu.
The 1.259-kilometer passage is placed at the juncture between National Road 1 (DN1), the Aerogarii Boulevard and the Ion Ionescu de le Brad Boulevard.
The National Road Authority (CNADNR) representatives said in November 2007 that works on the Baneasa passage would be completed by the end of 2008.
Nevertheless, works on the passage started in May 2008 and were supposed to be completed in May 2009. In the meantime, authorities said works will be finished on December 1, 2009.
