The 26 square meters norm imposed by the EU is much under the 50 square meters forwarded by the World Health Organization. Other European citizens from capitals like Stockholm and London benefited in 2007 from 83 and 64 square meters of green space per capita respectively.
A press release issued by the Press Office within the Bucharest mayoralty states the situation in each of Bucharest’s districts.
Bucharest’s district 3 places first with the largest number of parks and green spaces, totaling three and a half million square meters. At the opposite pole is District 5 with only two million square meters of green spaces.
The situation of green spaces in Bucharest worsened starting 1989 and diminished with almost 15 million square meters since then.
