So far, officials of Romanian promoters Emagic, organizing the concert in Bucharest, scheduled this Saturday, have not confirmed the gig has been cancelled.
"According to www.depechemode.com and www.purpleconcerts.eu, Depeche Mode’s shows in Athens and Istanbul will no longer take place on the scheduled dates. As far as the concert in Bucharest is concerned, it hasn’t been cancelled and we’re waiting for news on Dave Gahan’s state of health, as well as an official stand of the band’s management regarding the gig in Bucharest and the rest of the tour dates,” Emagic officials said.
Romanian organizers also halted the construction of the stage until new information is received.
Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan was rushed to the hospital Tuesday evening in Athens, Greece, after he got ill in his dressing room before the show. The band had to cancel the Athens gig.
Rolling Stone reported that Gahan might be suffering from stomach flu gastroenteritis.
The concert in Bucharest on Saturday would be the band’s second gig in Romania, after the show in the summer of 2006.
The concert is part of the band’s Tour of the Universe, to promote their 12th studio album, "Sounds of the Universe".
