Bush greeted journalists in Romanian, with “Buna ziua”, and thanked Romania for its hospitality and for hosting the summit.
"I admire your courage and I admire your leadership, and I want to thank you for hosting this NATO summit in Bucharest. It’s a big deal,” Bush said after his meeting with Romanian president Traian Basescu.

The U.S. official thanked Romania for its membership in NATO, adding he couldn’t think of a more beautiful setting to have this meeting.

“What is interesting is that twenty years ago our nations were separated by the Cold War and Romania was a member of the Warsaw Pact and suffered under the cruel rule of dictatorship. Today, things have changed. Romanian people are free, they are our allies, we appreciate you in NATO and I want to thank you for your contributions in Afghanistan and Iraq,” Bush said.
