Oprescu said his appeal mainly targets the lack of rationale behind this decision.

Oprescu’s lawyer, George Iorgovan, said he might as well address the matter to the Constitutional Court if the Bucharest Court’s ruling does not favor his client.

The electoral office Wednesday rejected Oprescu’s candidacy, as over 4000 signatures backing him for the race were invalid and he was left 400 signatures short.

Electoral office head Constantin Marino Marin said Oprescu needed 35,803 valid signatures, but 4,982 were considered invalid and the senator was left 400 signatures short of the legal threshold allowing him to run for Bucharest mayor.
