Romanian president Traian Basescu said Wednesday on B1 TV that the head of the public network, Alexandru Sassu, was appointed network president and general manager to serve the interests of liberals and social democrats, who backed him.
The president said the public network declined to have him on the air, where he wanted to explain the type of uninominal vote for which he called a referendum.
TVR said that in accordance with its duty to give correct, objective and unbiased information, it decide to grant no air time for the referendum campaign so long as competent institutions have not issued the norms and conditions for the campaign.
The network added it will include special programs to inform people on the referendum when the necessary legal framework is set.
