Romanian President To Visit Northeastern Localities Affected By Flood This Summer

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Tuesday will inspect works on the dams in the northeastern part of the country, which were destroyed by floods this summer, said the Presidential Administration's press bureau.

The president will inspect works on a bridge in Dornesti, a locality in Suceava county severely hit by floods this summer, and two dams in Rotunda-Buruienesti, Neamt county, and Saucesti, Bacau county.

Over 300 homes in Dornesti were affected by floods and 37 homes must be rebuilt. According to a report of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Suceava, damages in Suceava county total 357 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2762).

In Rotunda and Buruienesti, over 200 homes were affected by overflowing waters.

On July 14, the Government decided to allot RON40 million from the Environment Fund to finance flood infrastructure works on the Siret river, on the Rotunda-Buruienesti sector, after it had approved a decision to provide RON25 million for flood infrastructure works on the right bank of the Siret river.
