Romania Imported Gas Price Rises At 2-Yr High In Jan
The highest price seen in 2010 for natural gas was reached in December, namely $386 per 1,000 cubic meters.
Throughout the first quarter of 2009, Romania imported natural gas at prices between $492 and $493 per thousand cubic meters.
In addition, imported gas represented 30.07% of overall consumption in January, the widest level since March 2008. At that time, imports covered some 31% of local gas consumption.
Romania imports gas indirectly from Russia.
The largest local gas producers are OMV Petrom (SNP.RO) and Romgaz Medias, which cumulate some 97% of Romania’s gas output.
Last year, locally made gas covered 82.84% of consumption, while imports covered 17.16%.
