Romanian Liberal Leader Disagrees With Opposition Interior Min Scenario

Asked if the liberals were contacted and if they would be willing to appoint a minister, Antonescu replied he hopes nobody will dare contact him.

„I hope nobody will dare contact us because we will not be a part of their farce. (…) I think we all know that a country can have a national union government, and this is not the case, and we would not be a part of that either, and then there are technical governments and political governments. The farce played when the heads of the intelligence services were allegedly appointed from the opposition cannot be played again with the Ministry of Interior, or at least not with the help of the National Liberal Party,” Crin Antonescu said.

On the other hand, Antonescu said Basescu should immediately call the Parliament party for consultations in view of forming a government of technicians with an independent prime minister.

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Tuesday he proposed to leaders of the country’s ruling coalition the appointment of an interior minster who is independent or from the opposition, to ensure neutrality.
