“I nominated Razvan Lucescu to be Romania’s coach. The Executive Committee (of FRF – e.n.) will vote on his nomination tomorrow. (…) I believe Razvan Lucescu is a good choice for this position,” Lupescu said.
Lupescu said he carried preliminary talks with Lucescu and that negotiations will continue following the results of tomorrow’s vote.
Lucescu, son of successful football coach Mircea Lucescu, is currently the coach of Romanian first league FC Brasov.
His father was FRF’s first choice for the national team, but he declined the offer in favor of a renewed two-year deal with Ukrainian side Shaktar Donetsk.
FRF recently decided to terminate the contract of coach Victor Piturca after a disappointing run of results that seem to have ruined Romania’s chances to play in the next year’s World Cup.
Piturca will get EUR300,000 upon contract termination.
