Floods Affect 28 Romanian Counties From Wednesday Until Friday

About 156 localities in 28 Romanian counties were affected by heavy rainfall and floods from Wednesday until Friday, and four people died following freshets in Alba, Cluj and Suceava counties, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, or IGSU, said Friday.

According to IGSU, Alba, Arad, Arges, Bacau, Botosani, Buzau, Caras-Severin, Cluj, Constanta, Dambovita, Dolj, Galati, Giurgiu, Gorj, Hunedoara, Ialomita, Iasi, Mehedinti, Neamt, Olt, Prahova, Salaj, Suceava, Teleorman, Timis, Tulcea, Valcea si Vrancea were the counties affected by floods in the June 23 and June 25 interval.

Local authorities evacuated 185 people, 118 of whom hailed from the county of Arad, western Romania.

Floods have damaged 708 homes and warehouses, 170 yards, 87 roads, 189 bridges, 579 water wells, 3,853 hectares of forest, 2,840.3 hectares of meadows and 2,780.1 hectares of farmland.

Romanian hydrologists on Friday issued a code orange flood warning for rivers in the counties of Bacau, Buzau, Vaslui, Galati, Botosani and Harghita, as well as a code yellow warning for 12 other counties, valid from 4 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday.
