Employees of Romania’s public healthcare system will receive starting October an annual stability bonus, equal to the lowest salary of their basic qualification, health minister Eugen Nicolaescu told MEDIAFAX Monday.

"This is the first time healthcare authorities make such a proposal, as the system is confronted with a shortage of staff due to migration, since more and more doctors are tempted to go practice abroad. The stability bonus can be granted once a year, in the fourth quarter or in installments during this period,” Nicolaescu said.

Basic salaries for healthcare staff have been increased in three stages: by 5% starting Jan. 1, 2007 compared to Dec. 2006; by 2% starting Apr. 1, 2007 compared to Mar. 2007 and by 14% starting Oct. 1, 2007 compared to Sept. 2007.
