Thus, His Holiness Teofan was elected Bishop of Moldova and Bucovina, which, according to BOR hierarchy, is the highest rank after that of Patriarch. Teofan’s counter-candidate was his Holiness Casian, bishop of Dunarea de Jos.
Last year, Teofan ran for the position of Patriarch of the Orthodox Church and had His Holiness Daniel as counter-candidate.
Within two months at most, the Holy Synod is to hold polls for the position of Archbishop of Craiova and Bishop of Oltenia.
His Holiness Ioan of Covasna and Harghita, alongside His Holiness Calinic Botoseneanu also ran for the vacant seats of Archbishop of Iasi and Bishop of Moldova and Bucovina.
The Holy Synod also elected Wednesday seven bishops for the bishoprics countrywide and abroad.
