Romanian Dealers Re-Sold 25,000 New Cars Abroad – Car Dealer Radacini Motors
„Romania is among the most important European countries when it comes to discounts on cars and the success of car park renewal programs in other states determines European dealers, who have depleted their stocks, to buy cars from our country. Romanian dealers are OK with this, because most of the time deliveries are paid for immediately. This explains the large difference between the number of sales and that of registrations,” Radacini Motors sales manager Nicolae Sorescu told MEDIAFAX.
The Automobile Producers and Importers Association (APIA) has data that shows 121,931 new cars were sold in the first 11 months of the year, while the Vehicle License and Registration Department’s (DRPCIV) statistics say 104,699 cars were registered. The difference between the number of cars sold and that of cars registered is over 17,200 units.
Hyundai, the highest selling brand on the Romanian market in 2009, sold 10,104 units in the first 11 months, but DRPCIV’s data shows only 4,985 have been registered.
„The number of cars sold by dealers abroad is actually higher than indicated by statistics. Some of the cars are first registered in our country so as not to breach certain contracts which stipulate this,” Sorescu said.
APIA officials said the difference is also due to the delay between purchase and registration. „This period is usually 30 days, but it can be higher. Of course, such a large difference cannot only be due to this fact,” APIA secretary general Marius Tudor told MEDIAFAX.
