Papoulias is on a two-day official visit to Romania at the invitation of the Romanian head of state.

According to the meeting schedule, the two head of states will hold a joint news conference in the afternoon.

The Greek head of state will also meet with Prime Minister Emil Boc and Romanian Patriarch Daniel on Tuesday. He will attend an economic forum on Wednesday and will hold talks with Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana and Chamber of Deputies Speaker Roberta Anastase.

A full-blown strike was announced in Greece Tuesday and Wednesday, with unionists protesting over a 2012-2015 austerity program, which is currently debated by the Greek Parliament.

Basescu said last week in Brussels, after the European Council meeting, that not a penny from structural funds meant for Romania and other EU states will be directed to Greece.
