Georgescu, who has run the department so far as deputy head, was also floated for the headship of the General Intelligence and Internal Protection Department within the Interior Ministry, during the short mandate of former social democrat interior minister Liviu Dragnea.
Subsequently, Dragnea was replaced with Dan Nica who requested that magistrates filling various positions within DGA be recalled, citing lack of staff in the justice system.
Thus, the High Council of Magistrates (CSM) decided on April 2 that Paun, as well as other four prosecutors, be recalled from DGA.
Following CSM’s decision, starting April 20, Paun, alongside Mircea Petrescu and Lucian Doxan will return to the Prosecutors’ Office with the Supreme Court, prosecutor Ionel Corbu will return to the Prosecutors’ Office with the Bucharest Military Court, while prosecutor Ionel Marian Gherman will return to the Prosecutors’ Office with the Bucharest Court.
