Romanian Social Services Employees Demand Higher Wages
According to a statement by the “Pro Asist” National Union Federation, an affiliate of CNS “Cartel Alfa”, union members are unhappy with their low salaries, and there is already a shortage of staff.
“Through social dialogue we are trying to standardize services and create a list of social assistance job and service descriptions and a staff index for this system, which would allow for appropriate working conditions for each employee. Also, the status of maternal assistants must be clarified, and there is a need for bonuses for working in special conditions,” stated the union members.
They ask that once unitary public sector wage law comes into effect, public servants and personnel in the departments of social assistance and child protection should have wages similar to those of employees of local councils and bodies of Bucharest sectors.
Union members have threatened to resort to picketing, rallies and strikes in order to gain rights for employees.
