Romania PM: President Traian Basescu To Represent Democrat Liberals In Presidential Elections

Romanian democrat liberal Prime Minister Emil Boc said Thursday on public radio that acting President Traian Basescu will represent the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) in the presidential race in autumn, adding he doesn’t wish to run for president of Romania.

Boc also stressed he has never discussed his potential candidacy with his party colleagues.

"I have never thought about running for president of Romania, nor has the Democratic Liberal Party ever discussed about another potential runner in the presidential race, since acting President Traian Basescu is the democrat liberal to join the race," said Boc.

PDL secretary general Vasile Blaga recently said Boc is likely to join the presidential race in autumn if Basescu refuses to run for a second term.

Blaga also said Boc is among the first four most credible politicians in Romania.

“Boc is highly likely to run for president if Basescu decides not to run for a second term. Boc is among the first four most credible politicians in Romania,” said Blaga, adding he is convinced, however, that Basescu will join the presidential race.

Furthermore, Blaga stressed Basescu "would make a decision in this respect, arguing Boc is more than likely to represent the democrat liberals in the presidential race if Basescu refuses to run for a second term.
