Ciolacu will discuss with Bolojan whether to change Hurezeanu from MAE
Ciolacu stated, „We live in a different context. It is normal to reevaluate our collaboration in light of the new U.S. administration.”
„We are in a different dynamic. It is essential to reassess our collaboration given the circumstances surrounding the new U.S. administration. This will be discussed primarily with Mr. Interim President Bolojan. Even though he is the interim President of Romania, the authority in the foreign constitutional area rests with the President of Romania, and I am confident we will find the best solutions. I want to clarify one point: it is not accurate to say ‘Hurezeanu is not a good foreign minister.’ That is not the case. We are simply operating under a different logic,” Ciolacu remarked.
He emphasized that he is not advocating for either „change or no change,” but rather stating that „we need a different dynamic in our relationship with the United States.”
„Of course, I respect the European Union and the European Commission; Romania’s rightful place is within the EU. However, Romania currently has a security priority. Our security is fundamentally based on our NATO membership and our strategic partnership with the United States. We are facing an ongoing border conflict, with Romania possessing the longest border in Europe with Ukraine, spanning 650 kilometers. It is only natural that we seek a new approach in this context. We do not have to choose between the European Union and our strategic partnership with the United States,” Ciolacu concluded.
