The team won four medals – two gold and two silver -, an honorable mention and a special prize, the Education Ministry said in a press release Tuesday.
Ioana Zelko and Marius Constantin, both in 12th grade at the Bucharest International Computer High School, each won a gold medal.
Miruna Oprescu, a pupil of the „Ovidius” Theoretical High School of Constanta, won this year a silver medal (matching her performance in the 2007 and 2008 editions) plus a special prize for drafting the clearest thesis in the theoretical challenge.
Vlad Dumitru Margarint, of the „Gh. Rosca Codreanu” National College in Barlad, won the second silver medal. Kruk Sandor, of the „Vasile Lucaciu” National College in Baia Mare, who won the bronze last year, received an honorable mention.
More than 100 pupils from over 20 countries took part in the competition. The Romanian team ranked the highest of European teams, overtaking Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Serbia, Slovakia and Belarus, and ranking third after India and Iran overall.
The Romanian pupils will land Tuesday at 2 p.m. on the „Henri Coanda” International Airport near Bucharest.
