„We found no property to correspond to our criteria. Moreover, the risk is too high for such an investment (…) I think nothing else will happen in the next two years besides the already-announced projects,” said Thursday Tinu Sebesanu, the executive manager of consultancy company Trend Hospitality, Wyndham’s strategic partner in Romania.
As regards extending the Ramada hotel brand in Romania, part of the projects announced by the company have been delayed for 2010. For this year, the company had planned the opening of the Ramada hotels in the northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca and the western town of Oradea and the start of construction works at two other units, in Pitesti, southern Romania and in the western city of Timisoara.
The total investment in the four units was estimated at around EUR60 million.
Besides Romania, the company plans to open a 150-room Ramada hotel in Chisinau in 2011, the first hotel in that area affiliated to an international brand.
Besides Howard Johnson, Days Inn, Wyndham or Ramada, the Wyndham group, one of the largest international hotel franchisers, also owns the Travelodge, Knights Inn, Super 8 Motel and Wingate Inn brands.
In Romania, there are nine Ramada hotels, including the two not-yet-opened in Cluj-Napoca and Oradea, and one Howard Johnson hotel, located in Bucharest.
