“Starting yesterday, authorities in Chisinau have been running a methodical operation to identify people who were among demonstrators on April 7-8," the minister said, adding that from the public statements of Moldova’s prosecutor general, there are Romanian citizens among the 200 people arrested.

Diaconescu added the situation in the Republic of Moldova raises security issues and urged Romanians to avoid travelling to the neighboring country.

"Given the situation in the Republic of Moldova, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers it raises serious issues regarding the safety of Romanian citizens and we recommend that Romanians should avoid traveling to this country. We know this request creates difficulties for many people who have both Romanians and Moldovan citizenship, especially since Easter is coming. Unfortunately, we have to make this recommendation following the actions and measures of authorities in Chisinau,” the minister said.

Moldova’s prosecutor general Valeriu Gurbulea said there are a few foreign citizens among the 200 people arrested in Chisinau following street protests, ITAR-Tass reported.
