Isarescu said the recent appreciation of the national currency against the euro should ease concerns over an imminent weakening of the leu or at least it should discourage those who seek to justify higher prices by the leu’s depreciation.
Romania’s leu has strengthened by 1.3% versus the European common currency since January. On Thursday, it touched a 10-month high at 4.2016 against the euro.
Isarescu was presented Friday with the French highest decoration, the Legion of Honor, for his role in „Romania’s integration into the European Union, his position within European economic governance and for his personal merits.”
The ceremony took place at the French Embassy in Bucharest.
