The bill will be approved by the Government by the end of April and presented to Parliament with a request that it be adopted by the end of June at the latest.

MEDIAFAX reported last year that the Government planned to allow certain exceptions from the rule that only one in seven vacancies could be filled in the public sector, introduced in 2009. This change was negotiated with the International Monetary Fund and included in the authorities’ letter of intent to the Fund, last year.

The Government’s fiscal-budgetary strategy kept this restriction in 2010 and 2011 and will also keep it in effect this year and in 2013. By freezing hiring in the public sector, the Government estimates it will reduce personnel expenses by 1.72 billion lei (EUR395 million) in 2012 and by RON1.99 billion in 2013. (EUR1=RON4.3447)
