Romanian Automobile Dacia Won’t Make Hybrid Cars In Near Future – Official

The strategy of Romanian carmaker Automobile Dacia does not include the production of hybrid cars, as the national infrastructure and various interests in the oil field will not allow the development of a profile market in the near future, Dacia vice-president Constantin Stroe said Thursday.

Stroe said he is skeptical about the future of hybrid and electric cars in Romania, because the use of such vehicles requires a supply infrastructure at least double the classic fuel-based infrastructure. He also said, at an event celebrating 30 years since the setting up of car battery maker Rombat Bistrita, that authorities’ efforts to implement programs meant to support the purchase of hybrid and electric vehicles are limited.

Stroe stressed Dacia has a strong production strategy, at least until 2015. He added that, starting 2012, car battery maker Rombat Bistrita will also supply batteries for the other Renault plants where Dacia cars are produced.
