Romanian Ambassador, Consul Sanctioned In Crulic’s Death
Comanescu decided Romanian Ambassador to Warsaw, Gabriel Constantin Bartas is to receive a 10% salary penalty for next three months over inadequate coordination of consular activities, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In addition, consul Ioan Danuţ Preda is to be recalled from Warsaw and will have his labor contract suspended for six months, the ministry said.
Romanian citizen Claudiu Crulic died of starvation in Poland in January this year, protesting by hunger strike against his incarceration on charges of theft.
According to Romanian officials, Crulic sent two memos regarding his situation to the consulship in Warsaw, but received no assistance whatsoever.
The investigations in Crulic’s case triggered the resignation of Romanian foreign minister Adrian Cioroianu.
