Giovanni Musat had been living in Spain for two years, in La Cabrera.
The man was sitting on a park bench, with a friend, Friday evening, when five men, aged between 19 and 25, approached him.
They insulted him for his Romanian origins and threatened to set him on fire. Initially, the attackers left, but returned shortly after with several canisters of gasoline.
The attackers did not set Musat on fire, but they did strike him with their fists until he fell. Then, three of them kicked him in the head trying to crush his skull.
The Romanian died instantly.
The victim’s brother, Costel, asked for help at the Romanian Embassy and the Romanian Consul to La Cabrere to bring the victim’s body back to Romania, in accordance with his mother’s wishes.
According to a friend of the victim, four of the five attackers were not from La Cabrera, but from El Molar.
