Romanian Tourism Ministry Mulls Paying Travel Agencies EUR2 Per Foreign Tourist

The Romanian Tourism Ministry plans to introduce, either this year or the next, the so-called “incoming tax”, granting bonuses to tourism agencies for each foreign tourist they bring to Romania, tourism minister Elena Udrea said Wednesday.

Udrea made the announcement in the assembly of the Tourism Advisory Council, which includes members of the Tourism Ministry and employers’ associations in the sector. Udrea added that the Government and Finance Ministry’s approval is required before the bonuses can be implemented.

Udrea said the minimum sum paid per foreign tourist would be at least EUR2, given that in other states the amount is between EUR0.5 and EUR5.
