Romania 2H 2009 Household Gas Tariffs At EUR7.5/GJ, Lowest In EU
The average gas price in the EU bloc was EUR14.7 per gigajoule, EU’s statistics office Eurostat said.
When adjusted for purchasing power, the lowest household gas prices in EU were recorded in Luxembourg (10.7 PPS per gigajoule), Belgium (12.7) and the United Kingdom (12.9), and the highest in Sweden (23.8), Poland (21.8) and Bulgaria (20.2).
In Romania, average gas prices in PPS stood at 13.65 per gigajoule in the second half of 2009, the data showed.
On the other hand, the share of taxes in Romanian household gas prices was 46% over the mentioned interval, well above the EU’s average of 22%. Denmark was the only EU member whose tax share in gas prices surpassed Romania’s, of 50% on average.
In the electricity sector, Romanian household prices rose 2.1% to EUR9.8 per 100 kWh in the second half of 2009 compared with the same period a year earlier, the fourth smallest tariff across EU.
Average household electricity prices in the second half of 2009 were lowest in Bulgaria (EUR8.2 per 100 kWh), Estonia (EUR9.2) and Lithuania (EUR9.3), and highest in Denmark (EUR25.5), Germany (EUR22.9) and Italy (EUR20).
The average electricity price in the EU was EUR16.5 per 100 kWh.
