Romanian PM Romania Supports US Missile Shield

Romania supports the extension of the American missile shield project, but without “hostility” from Russia, which needs to understand that it could team up with the EU and NATO in the set up of such global protection measures, said Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu.

"Romania fully supports the expansion of this project, to cover countries such as Romania and Bulgaria, which are only partially covered when it comes to the ballistic defense infrastructure. The expansion of this project must not trigger hostility from Russia, which needs to understand that it could partner with the EU and NATO," Tariceanu said in a press conference held in Prague, after a meeting with his Czech counterpart, Mirek Topolanek.

Tariceanu said Romania, as southeastern flank of NATO, is concerned with the risk potential from areas outside NATO.

Tariceanu is on an official visit in the Czech Republic.
